Environmental Projects Activities Report – Iraqi Institution for Development (IID)
Since 2013, the Iraqi Institution for Development (IID) has launched a series of environmental programs and initiatives aimed at raising environmental awareness and strengthening the capacities of local communities to address the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. These efforts initially focused on Ninewa Governorate, with a gradual expansion to other governorates in response to urgent environmental needs across Iraq.
IID’s environmental interventions have included community awareness campaigns, workshops and trainings on waste management and recycling, promotion of clean energy use, tree planting, and climate adaptation projects. The organization has also supported municipalities in developing local environmental plans and provided practical tools to reduce pollution and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
As part of its commitment to environmental governance, IID has worked to activate municipal laws related to solid waste reduction through awareness initiatives and technical and legislative support, targeting improvements in local waste management systems. IID has also organized specialized trainings for governmental institutions on climate change adaptation and the development of inclusive and effective local responses.
To ensure sustainability and long-term impact, IID has prioritized networking and coordination between civil society organizations and government institutions, based on the belief that effective environmental solutions require integrated efforts at all levels.
Through these initiatives, IID has consolidated its position as a leading organization in community-based environmental support, adhering to environmental and humanitarian standards and continuing its efforts to build a greener and more just future for all people in Iraq.
