On 30/11/2018, IID contributed in organizing Ninawa International Marathon for Peace and Reconstruction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Iraqi security forces declared the final victory in July in the battle to oust ISIL from Mosul, but the cost was too high, many civilians were killed or injured with a very high scale of destruction. On Thursday, more than 4,000 Iraqi and foreign runners took part in a first " Ninawa International Marathon for Peace and Reconstruction " in east Mosul that kicked off near the destroyed Old Bridge in order to send a message to the international community that Mosul would rise again despite the harsh and cruel circumstances that experienced under ISIL terrorist occupation.
