IID Implements the Tech Pathways MENA Program to Strengthen AI Skills and Connect Youth to the Job Market in Ninewa

IID implemented the Tech Pathways MENA program aimed at developing youth skills in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, with the support of Google, in cooperation with several universities, academic institutions, and civil society organizations in Ninewa Governorate, during the period from August 2025 to January 2026.
The program focused on building the capacities of students, graduates, and unemployed youth in emerging technology fields, helping them improve their professional opportunities and align their skills with labor market needs. The program included a series of specialized trainings on artificial intelligence applications and its use in business, entrepreneurship, and research.
The program witnessed strong engagement from participants, with 889 young men and women registered. A total of 1,144 invitations were sent to join the digital learning platform, 495 participants enrolled, and 371 participants successfully completed the training program.
The program adopted a flexible learning model combining in-person training and online learning. 80 participants completed the intensive in-person track, while 291 participants completed the program through the self-paced digital learning track.
Training activities included online sessions, in-person workshops within university campuses, and mentoring meetings to support participants in learning and applying AI tools in different professional fields. In total, the program delivered more than 31 hours of online training and 47 hours of in-person training, including orientation sessions, specialized workshops, and follow-up meetings with participants.
The program simplified complex AI concepts by providing practical examples and hands-on tools to help participants understand how to apply AI technologies in their professional lives. These applications included using AI tools to develop CVs, analyze local markets, and support small business development.
The program also emphasized linking training to the labor market by introducing participants to opportunities in the technology and digital economy sectors. In addition, the program strengthened digital entrepreneurship skills and supported small business owners in utilizing AI tools to improve their businesses.
The program was implemented in partnership with several academic institutions, including Northern Technical University, Mosul Polytechnic College, and Technical Engineering College – Mosul, in addition to collaboration with civil society organizations such as Muthabiroon for Good, Environment, and Development. These partnerships helped expand the program’s reach and engage diverse groups of students, graduates, and entrepreneurs.
These collaborations also provided a strong training environment within university campuses and enhanced the credibility of the program while facilitating access to the targeted youth groups seeking to develop their digital skills.
The implementation of the Tech Pathways MENA program represents an important step toward empowering youth in Ninewa Governorate with future-ready skills in artificial intelligence and modern technology. It contributes to improving employment opportunities, promoting digital entrepreneurship, and supporting innovation within the local community.
