Expert in Agriculture and Climate Change
Mr. Anas Azhar is an expert in environmental and agricultural projects and sustainable development, with extensive practical experience in managing environmental initiatives and rehabilitating green spaces in Nineveh Governorate. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Forestry from the University of Mosul and works in the academic sector, in addition to his active engagement in environmental volunteer work. He has led and coordinated large-scale reforestation initiatives, contributing to the planting of more than 40,000 trees through multiple environmental campaigns aimed at restoring green areas, combating desertification, and strengthening local responses to climate change. He has also held advisory and executive roles in projects related to sustainable forest management, agricultural project evaluation, and agricultural livelihoods support. He has experience in training farmers and agricultural staff on seasonal crop cultivation, fruit tree management, compost production (organic soil), and improving soil fertility using natural materials. He has also engaged hundreds of volunteers in community-based tree planting campaigns and environmental initiatives. He serves as a volunteer with the Iraqi Institution for Development (IID), contributing to the design and implementation of environmental initiatives, supporting sustainable agricultural activities, and participating in environmental awareness and green reconstruction campaigns. He has received Arab and international awards in recognition of his environmental efforts, including an award from the Arab Union for Volunteering in 2022 for Best Climate Action among 100 global projects. He is recognized as a prominent practitioner in environmental sustainability and agricultural development in Nineveh.
